"The raw devotion of this music was engaging beyond words...." Khalid Khan

In this time of religious extremism, there are still those who are carrying the flame of religious tolerance, devotion and mysticism- and the Sufis are some of the most ancient.
Fanna-Fi-Allah carries the tradition and teachings of the Sufis in their music, the devotionally driven and passionate music of Qawwali. Through many years of study and practice under the guidance of Qawwali masters of India and Pakistan, their expression of Qawwali music has become an authentic representation and continuation of this ancient tradition of Sufi music.
Sufism is alive and well in India and Pakistan, where Qawwali music celebrates the great Sufi mystics of old, and relishes in the love of the Divine through poetry. Sung with a powerful and soaring melodious chorus and accompanied by entrancing energetic rhythms of tabla and group clapping, the Beloved is celebrated with ecstatic devotion. Fanna-Fi-Allah gives audiences a glimpse inside this rich and vibrant
Sufi culture, to which many would otherwise never experience. The groups founding members have spent over 20 years learning this classical art-form. During their 15 years of world-wide touring they have played at many major international festivals. They have enthralled audiences in the USA, Pakistan, Europe, Indonesia, India, Egypt, and others, with their dynamic skill, and passionate musical precision. With ten albums already published, Fanna-Fi-Allah have now given us an even greater glimpse into this Sufi world of Pakistan with the production of their new documentary: Music of the Mystics.
Fanna-Fi-Allah continues to carry on an ancient wisdom in their music, a wisdom that is not only heard, but is profoundly felt. A universal message of devotion and tolerance that ignites hearts and quenches their deeper longings. A message that is so crucial for our time.

Cosmic Dance
☆ COSMIC DANCE MONTHLY ☆
with DJ Moody Shapes and Light Facilitation by Brynne Flidais
Friday, July 14th, 8:00-10:00PM

S P A C E is created for your own movement exploration, to dance with whatever is true for you, happy sad angry glad, there is space enough for it all here. The dance is what we make it together, a co-mingling of hearts, a unique expression of the present.

DJ Moody Shapes (aka Michael Reinhold) has a passion for music that inspires ecstatic movement, and is always looking for unique sonic gems that give a sense of permission to move in ways you may have never moved before, to light up the dance floor with the joy of discovery and the unexpected. "Moody Shapes brings the booty shakes!"

Brynne Flidais of Moveintuit brings Cosmic knowledge to the dance floor. Just as the moon's force pulls the ocean's tides, our bodies are influenced by the movements of celestial spheres. Blending our dance with Cosmic wisdom facilitates a deeper understanding of our physical, emotional, and spiritual selves. May we heed the lessons of the planets as we make manifest our soul's purpose.

To help us hold the container of this dance ... please no talking in the space, you are invited to communicate through your body and movement ... please request permission through eye contact or playful dance before making contact, and respect others' choice to dance alone -- hands-to-the-heart (namaste) is a good way to say "no thanks" or to end a dance... please no chemical colognes or perfumes (for those of us with sensitivities)... please respect others' inner journey and dance space... please turn your cellphone to mute. ♥

Ecstatic Dance
ECSTATIC DANCE SANTA CRUZ
Saturday, July 22nd, 7:00-10:00pm

Ecstatic Dance Santa Cruz is a unique expression of a global movement; hosted and DJ'd by Hamid Martin and special guests. hamidmartin.com

Ecstatic Dance is a DJ'd, free-form dance/movement meditation experience. This can be a practice of surrendering to the moment and to our body's wisdom. It is an opportunity for allowing, feeling, and expressing all the emotional qualities and textures that make up this human experience; and for exploring what artistry moves through us/ as us in this expression.

You are invited to explore your inner landscape--alone and in community. What is it like to be in an environment that welcomes our inner chaos and un-groundedness? Also, what is it like to be firmly rooted in our own center, true to ourselves, while sharing space and interacting with others on the dance floor? And what unfolds when we carry this embodied truth and freedom beyond the dance floor, into our daily lives?

Also, please visit ecstaticdance.org/guidelines/ for more information supporting this global movement.

Kirtan! An Evening of Ecstatic Chanting with Jai Uttal, Daniel Paul, and likely some more amazing guests!

$25 Advance tix available at:
http://jaiuttalsc.brownpapertickets.com/
$30 at the door

Embark on a vocal journey through the sacred sounds of ancient India.
Drawing from an unbroken tradition of Indian devotional singing, Jai Uttal will introduce and lead us in the ancient practice of "Kirtan" (or chanting), the heart of devotional yoga. This practice of calling to the divine creates a bridge between the individual and the eternal, opening the heart and welcoming the spirit. Sometimes soft andmeditative and sometimes loud and wildly rhythmic, Kirtan takes the participant on a deep emotional and musical journey through our mostly unexplored inner world. With solo performance and call-and-response group chanting, Jai creates a space of invocation, prayer, and heartfelt expression.

Jai has been leading Kirtans worldwide for over thirty years. "These ancient chants," writes Jai "contain a transformative power and healing energy. By singing these prayers we join a stream of consciousness and devotion that has been flowing for centuries."

No previous experience is needed. This is an exploration of the heart, independent of vocal or musical technique.

Jai Uttal, a Grammy nominated sacred music composer, recording artist, multi-instrumentalist, and ecstatic vocalist, combines influences from India with influences from American rock and jazz, creating a stimulating and exotic multi-cultural fusion that is truly world spirit music. Having traveled extensively in India, where he met many beautiful saints and singers, Bhakti yoga became his personal path. Jai has been leading kirtans around the world for more than 30 years, creating a safe environment for people to open their hearts and voices.

In 2014 Jai released two new albums, Return to Shiva Station: Kailash Connection, a wholly new re-envisioning of his groundbreaking album Shiva Station, and Lifeline: The Essential Jai Uttal and Ben Leinbach Collection, an unfolding musical celebration of their decade of collaboration that reflects the myriad faces of kirtan and beyond.

ABOUT DANIEL PAUL: Daniel Paul Fulbright tabla drum virtuoso who has been a mainstay of the kirtan touring circuit for 2 decades touring the world primarily with Grammy nominee Jai Uttal.
